TIf the Solar System is our neighborhood, then the Universe is the entire giant world waiting to be discovered. For kids, the concept of a “universe” is both massive and magical. It’s where everything exists—every star they see at night, every planet, and every mystery yet to be solved.
I’ve put together this collection of 12 free universe coloring pages to help your kids visualize the “big picture.” These pages go beyond just individual planets; they focus on the movement, the orbits, and the vast scale of space. They are a wonderful way to spark deep-thinking conversations while keeping little hands busy.

If your child wants to map out the furthest reaches of space, you can grab our comprehensive Universe Coloring Book for a giant collection of celestial designs in one easy-to-print file.
What’s Included in This Universe Collection?
I wanted these designs to feel dynamic and full of motion. Here is a look at the scenes your child can color:
- Orbital Diagrams: Beautiful geometric representations of planets circling the sun, perfect for kids who love symmetry and patterns.
- The View from Above: Scenes showing Earth with satellites and surrounding stars, giving kids a “floating in space” perspective.
- Galaxy Gazers: Illustrations featuring Astronauts planted on alien worlds looking out at swirling nebulae and shooting stars.
- High-Action Travel: Fast-moving Rocket Ships and sleek Spaceships zooming through asteroid belts and cosmic dust.
If your little one is enjoying these broad views of the cosmos, they might also love our more focused Space Coloring Pages to see even more details of life among the stars.
Why “Universe” Themed Coloring is Special
Coloring the universe is different because it encourages kids to think about backgrounds. Instead of just coloring a single object, they get to decide:
- Is space black or deep purple? 2. Are the stars yellow, white, or blue?
- What color is a black hole’s event horizon?
It’s a fantastic exercise in color blending and imagination. It helps them realize that even the “empty” parts of space are actually full of light and energy.
3 Galactic Craft Ideas for Your Finished Pages
Don’t stop at the coloring! Here are three ways to turn these pages into a home science project:
1. The “Bleeding Tissue” Nebula
After your child colors the main objects (like a planet or a ship), have them place small pieces of wet purple and blue tissue paper on the white background areas. Let it dry, then peel it off. The colors will bleed onto the page, creating a beautiful, misty “nebula” effect.
2. Punch-Out Stars
Once the page is colored, use a sharp pencil or a pin (with adult supervision!) to poke tiny holes through the stars on the paper. If you hold the page up to a window or a lamp in a dark room, the stars will “glow” with real light!
3. Space Travel Map
Line up several of the finished pages on the floor to create a “pathway” through the Universe. Your child can use their toy cars or figures to “travel” from one galaxy-themed page to the next.
